WHITE SPACE, November 11

"6 artists manipulated and embellished white Eames Molded Plastic Rockers in 2 frenetic hours. Pieces were auctioned off. Proceeds benefit BMoCA."
Aell used strapping material which she folded over on one end and wrapped wire around the created loop with a spacing of 1/4". She cut slots in the white plastic chair which she used to weave the straps through. Additonal cut outs she used to string red and silver wire through. The inspiration for this manipulation was the urge to open up the shape with taking away and adding volume. As with a lot of other projects she recycled all the materials.

Participating artists were: Sabin Aell, Allan Andre, Pattie Lee Becker, Donald Fodness, Alvin Gregorio, Xi Zhang

RECLAMATION
showing with Brian Cavanaugh, Terry Maker, Jon Rietfors, Yumi Janairo Roth, and Ann Weber

June 2 - August 13, 2011
Reclamation, an exhibition where the mundane is beautiful, the industrial has become refined and function gives over to form. Used cardboard, discarded and splintered pallets, last year’s billboard ads, emptied beer cans and film cartridges – all destined for the wasteland see a rebirth as raw material in art making. Detritus of our consumer society, once serving a functional purpose have been reclaimed as fodder for new formal narratives.

"Moonwalk | mother & father", mixed media, 18 pieces 40" x 50"

"Moonwalk | mother and father" features Sabin Aell’s photography in a mixed media approach, with a dual presentation contrasting positive and negative elements. Mirroring the movement of synergy, manifestation of creation, and a pureness towards ourselves, the “father series” contains pale flowers emerging out of the black background whereas the “mother series” removes the dark cloak, causing the flower to appear as it is receding, reflecting our aspiration to find beauty. Painted, broken white lines trail through both bodies of “Moonwalk”, depicting the code of the superstructure, the blueprint of life that urge the viewer to get involved. Born and educated in Austria, Sabin Aell’s resume includes international exhibits in Berlin, London, Seoul, Adelaide, Stockholm and Vienna. Her media ranges from photography to mixed media to film.
